Every one of our Facial Products is formulated to address a particular skin type or concern. Check out this handy guide that will help you make the best personal choice.
First of all, we have to mention our brand-new Vitamin C Facial. This one is literally flying off of the shelves and we honestly can barely make it fast enough to keep it in stock. Check out the product info here to see what all the hype is about and get yourself one. It's never a bad thing to have 2 Simple Sugars Facials in your skincare arsenal, after all, they say variety is the spice of life. (We're not 100% sure who "they" are, but we buy it!)
Normal or Combination skin? Coffee or Tea? Or maybe Cucumber or Pomegranate...
If you have normal or combination skin, you basically have three awesome choices for your face. Here's how to pick the one that's best for you
Green Tea Facial: Our best-seller. The list of potential benefits associated with green tea is loooooonnnnnngggg. The main thing is that green tea has a VERY high antioxidant content (read anti-aging!!!) and it's also got anti-inflammatory benes (think anti-redness). This scrub is loaded with green tea so it smells exactly like green tea! Fresh and kind of earthy. Also, if you have no idea what kind of skin you have, or if your skin is a little schizo and changes from day to day, this is the one for you!
Coffee Facial: For coffee lovers only! This stuff seriously smells like fresh brewed coffee. It has extract from the coffee berries (those are coffee berries in the picture, the coffee beans are inside) which is a super antioxidant and green coffee bean extract as well. So this one has the antioxidant bases covered too (antioxidants = anti-aging). It's also got caffeine which can shrink the surface blood vessels that cause redness. And yes, this one will help wake you up in the morning for sure.
Cucumber Facial: This one is super refreshing. Like all Simple Sugars scrubs this one smells exactly like what it's called, in this case, CUCUMBER. Cucumber peels contain caffeic acid which reduces swelling and puffiness. This one is perfect for summertime.
Pomegranate Facial: The antioxidants in pomegranates neutralize the effects of free radicals, which break up the collagen matrix that makes skin look wrinkled and saggy. On top of that, it has anti-inflammatory and anti-acne benefits as well, AND there's even evidence to suggest that pomegranate may help protect the skin from oxidative damage from sun exposure! Oh, and it smells divine!
The choice is yours. ALL will leave your skin feeling incredibly soft and smooth and will allow you to GO NO-LO! BUT DON'T FORGET TO USE SUNSCREEN! (This might be the only case where the "if you wouldn't eat it, you shouldn't be putting it on your skin" rule can justifiably be bent. Skin cancer is real, people),
So you're oily and maybe break out once in a while...
Yeah, yeah we know! You have really oily skin, and can't imagine using an oil-based cleanser or moisturizer because that will just make you WAY too oily and then you'll break- out and the whole world will blow up!
Guess what? NOT TRUE!!!
Yes, some people's bodies make more oil than others. But the idea that you can't use oil to cleanse oily skin is pure fallacy. In actuality, the worst thing you can use on oily skin is a foaming cleanser. Here's the thing, water can't dissolve oil - it's basic chemistry. So you need a detergent to break down the oil, right? WRONG! The foaming stuff is harsh and strips the oil from your skin (you know that "squeaky clean" feeling? Yeah, not good!) and that totally freaks your oil-producing body out. It then goes into oil-producing overdrive to correct the situation you just created! That's when the problems start...
So yes, oily skin person, you CAN and SHOULD be using an oil based cleanser on your skin and it will actually decrease the possibility of breakouts!
You have two choices:
Strawberry Facial: Ok, we're not going to lie. This is hands down the most awesome smelling facial scrub of the bunch and potentially in the world! It smells downright yummy. But aside from smelling divine, strawberries contain salicylic acid which makes them naturally astringent, helping to control oil production without over-stimulating the oil producing mechanism in your body. If you're a little oily and occasionally breakout, this is the one for you.
Green Tea with Tea Tree Oil: This one is for you if you have seriously oily skin or significant acne. The anti-inflammatory properties of the green tea plus the anti-bacterial benefits of the tea tree oil deliver a one-two punch that does wonders for oily, acne-prone skin. What's amazing about this scrub is that it really works without over-drying the skin like just about every other anti-acne product out there. Not only does it clear up your skin but it leaves it feeling soft and smooth! It's kind of like a miracle. We have hundreds of testimonials from people that used to use PRO-ACTIV (loaded with chemicals, btw) or were on ACCUTANE (prescription drugs??? No thank you!). This one smells like tea tree oil, which is kind of strong and medicinal smelling, but it really works.
And for you alligators out there...
So your skin is the driest of them all. Or maybe you live in some hellish climate like Arizona. You also have choices:
Avocado Facial: Avocados have sterolins in them which are the good-for- you-fats. This is our most emollient (read moisturizing) facial scrub. It has a more creamy consistency, because of, well, the avocado, and it packs a heavy duty dose of moisturization. If you're super dry, pick this one. It smells like, you guessed it, avocados, but it's the most subtle of all the scents.
ANY of the facial scrubs with EMU OIL: Emu oil is, in our eyes, THE most amazing ingredient. It's awesome for sensitive skin - particularly those with eczema or psoriasis on the face, but it's also very moisturizing and can be added to any facial scrub for a kicked- up version that will leave you even more moisturized.
Disclaimer: Emu oil does come from the emu bird. The birds are farmed for their high-protein, low-fat meat and the oil is a by-product.
