Scary Skincare Product Alert: Facial wipes

Makeup Wipes

Facial wipes seem like the perfect way to cleanse your skin after a long day. I mean, what's more convenient that just popping a wet wipe out and swiping your face?

But sometimes (actually, lots of times) easy isn't always best. 💁🏻‍♀️

Daily makeup remover wipes can actually be pretty hard on your skin because they cause friction and can even tear your skin. Plus since they're wet, they need to be loaded with preservatives and alcohol to keep them mold free. So the very idea of a wipe for sensitive skin, is kind of an impossibility.

Not to mention that wipes are not environmentally friendly since they're made from materials that don't break down quickly or easily. According to the United States Food and Drug Administration, “Cleansing wipes are made of materials such as polyester, polypropylene, cotton, wood pulp, or rayon fibers formed into sheets.” Many of these materials aren’t biodegradable and turn into microplastics after they are thrown in landfill. According to Bustle, “20 million makeup wipes a day are being thrown into the trash. This makes wipes the third most wasteful product in the world.”,

So, easy and convenient? yep. A good idea? Nope, for all of the above reasons. Do your skin and the planet a favor and stop using single use facial wipes.
